Our goal is to educate both experienced and non experienced ReInvent attendees on how to extract the most out of reInvent. This inclues our experience from last year, what to expect from this year “before you go”, trends, and AWS. This powerful conversation is led by our host and Director of Marketing, Michael Elliott. We are also joined by our honored guest Lisa Culbert – Senior Marketing Manager for 2nd Watch.

Involve, Solve Evolve. Welcome to cloud Crunch, the podcast for any large enterprise planning on moving to or is in the midst of moving to the cloud. Hosted by the cloud computing experts from second Watch. Michael Elliott, Executive director of Marketing and Fred Bliss, CTO of all Things Data at second Watch and now here are your hosts of cloud Crunch. Welcome back to a new season of cloud Crunch. In this season, we're going to focus on AWS Reinvent, the biggest cloud conference in the world, kicking off I believe November. Now. Our intend is to enable you, the viewer, the opportunity to immerse yourself and how really cloud has evolved since last year on topics like...

...preparing and building a center of excellence, extracting data insights, managing in a cloud native environment, which is going to be key, and then also just in general data center evacuation. Now today joining me is Lisa Colbert, who's the senior marketing manager here at second Watch and responsible for the AWS marketing relationship. Welcome to cloud Crunch, Lisa, Thank you, Michael. Now, how many reinvents has has been for you? This will be my six three event. This year, so I imagine you have seen a lot of evolution that has occurred. Absolutely this this conference is definitely continuously moving and getting better and more focused, and so I'm excited for what's to come this year now as we move out of the two years of the pandemic type of conference. Kind I'd like to talk to you talk a little bit about now, what are your expectations for a year. Gosh, I have a lot of expectations,...

...but I think what I'm most excited for is to learn more about how AWS is evolving its data and analytics services in general. I'm also really looking forward to seeing a lot of new faces and a lot of people that I've already had the opportunity to meet in person. And I really, I really think this year is is pivotal for reinvent, just because it was at its biggest before we went into the pandemic. We had the pandemic year where we were all virtual, and now we're coming back a year after we went back live. There were about twenty thousand attendees in two thousand twenty one, which is a third of what it was before we went into the pandemic mode. So this should be a little bit more back on track in terms of the number of attendees and the opportunities at Reinvent, I think will be greater because of it. Awesome, thank you. Now, when I think about Reinvent, I think of about really three groups of people who attend. There are...

...there's the executive level. There is you know, the technologists that people, they're they're just and reinvent was built around learning, around going in and understanding as environment the tools of capabilities around that. And then there's this middle management that comes there. And and for me, the middle management is around not as technology focused, but they want to understand the technology. They are really the ones that are thinking about how do I solve business problems? How do I create differentiation for my clients. So let's kind of talk a little bit about those three. You know, if you're an executive, what are you thinking about? What do you want to get out of reinvent? Great question. So a WS Reinvent is a great time to put our social caps on and and being it from the technology industry. Sometimes this is a little bit of a struggle, but this is a networking event. We're here to make have meaningful conversations with like minded people. Experts from the community. So in...

...terms of executives that are attending Reinvent, they come to stay competitive aws. Reinvent offers keynote sessions that will include the latest and greatest updates that give a broad understanding of what's new, what's hot, and through process of elimination what's not. They'll be over twenty leadership sessions offered at Reinvent, and they are really piggybacking off of those keynotes. So you have Swammy who's gonna from the data in a I M L realm. He's going to be giving a keynote, and then there'll be a specific leadership session to follow up that keynote to talk about some of those learnings and key takeaways. So I think those leadership sessions will definitely be a great place to start for the executives. Another great place to follow up and potentially with those management folks is making connections with the exhibitors and the expo and the partners in the expo hall to help further discuss...

...some of their key point pain point areas. In terms of well, let's talk about that, I'm gonna I'm gonna cut you off for a second. Let's talk about that. I mean, how do you take advantage of the wealth of information that's in that exhibit, holl, I mean, how do you how do you best approach that. You know, most the exhibitors don't have sessions, so that's a really great question. It's imperative that you plan out your trip with the exhibitors in mind. This year AWS has neighborhood set up, so it's easier this year than previous years to find the experts to solve your goals. Those neighborhoods include developer solutions, security, data and analytics, a I M L, and a startup neighborhood. Once you've established your goals coming into this conference, aligning with the partners that make sense to the goals that you're trying to accomplish and writing down their booth numbers and kind of mapping out your entire trip is the best way to approach reinvent. No, that's awesome, I appreciate that. Now, how do you transition from sessions...

...to meeting providers? You know, for example, I imagine a person going there and saying I want and you brought this up around data insights or data and analytics. How do you go from going into sessions and learning about that too, then mapping out how do I solve a business problem? How do I make that connection between For example, now you understand what Snowflake does, how do I then take that and say, how do I translate that into solving a business problem for my company? I would find the experts, so I would figure out who's partnered with Snowflake and then go talk to those partners to find out how they can enable you or touch on and going more in depth with the information that you learned from the session. It's gonna be really key for you to map out your entire visit at Reinvent, from the keynote to the sessions, to the partners that can help enable your goals this year.

So let's you know, expand upon that a little bit so that there's the key learnings that you're going to get from Reinvent. How about the you know, besides the exhibit hall, there are a lot of things that are going on externally to that, so for example, you know, the happy hours, the dinners that are going on, how do you get involved in, you know, having a deeper level conversation with the people you want to learn more about outside of the Hall. Good question. So extracurricular activities are at the core and they're cut essential in the DNA of Reinvent. So the partner ecosystem at AWS will be hosting several happy hours and parties throughout the week. I think the best way to tune into that would you check their landing pages and to get details, and you can also potentially look for insiders on Twitter that have some of that information. We're hosting a happy Monday night football happy hour, so get in touch with your contacts at Second Watch to learn more about that. Reinvent offers restaurant receptions Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Venetian...

...and MGM, and then there's also Replay that's happening on Thursday night and all the classic replay activities like Dodgeball and Office Chair Grand Prix, plus some very special musical headliner. And I'm curious, Michael, do you have any guesses on who the headliner is going to be this year? I do not. I haven't actually looked into that. And this is part of the problem I come up with is reinvents getting younger and younger, so the people that they're not bringing in don Henley. They're not bringing in the talking heads and not bringing in Jackson Brown, so you know, it's gotten a little bit younger for me. But there's still a lot to enjoy around that. But you know there's also Vegas as well. Now, question for you, what can you expect from second Watch this year? What's the focus for second Watch going to be? Second Watch has been sponsoring and participating in re event for the last ten years, so we definitely really have this down to a science.

We planned this event over the course of five months and the time, effort and energy spent is well worth it. Because AWS Reinvent is the largest cloud conference in the world each year. I'm amazed at the volume, how it increases, and how the community comes together. We'll definitely have some exciting swag this year, So come by booth to zero to seven in the Developer Solutions neighborhood to get your swag, enter to win a Lego set, and to talk to a cloud master on how to accomplish your business goals. So Lego set, that sounds cool. What else? What else is going on there? We're giving away some T shirts and I don't want to spill the beans on this one. Because I'm really excited to show people what we're working with this year. But we'll have a T shirt and they're always top notched with some of the most clever, clever ways to approach it, So come by and check it out. Yeah, and I know that's one of the most popular things at the booth when it opens up, is everybody coming and see what is a new design for this or from a second Watch. For sure,...

...we'll give away a thousand to fifteen hundred T shirts in the first three hours of this conference, so you'll definitely want to swing by early in order to make sure you're maximizing and getting those T shirts. So, if if someone wants to have a conversation with you, what's the best way to reach you about participation and Reinvent And that could be you know, other vendors that are new to Second Watch, or just you know prospects out there that are trying to learn more about what second Watch does. What's the best way to get in touch with either second Watch or yourself, Lisa, great question. So we'll have a the ability for you to ask for meetings at Reinvent through our landing page, so you'll be able to set up face to face in person meetings. You can also reach out to us through our social media channels on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter, but the best way to really understand and to learn more about how we can help is to come visit us at the booth. Come talk to us, grab a T shirt, get entered...

...to win, and we'll be happy to discuss your data center evacuation, your modernization plans, talk about some of the ways that you're leveraging data and analytics in a smarter way. And also we're really focused on that cloud economics piece. We want to help those who have lifted and shifted and moved over to the cloud really maximize their cloud spend and ensure that they're getting the most out of the cloud. Excellent. Well, I want to thank you Lisa for joining us today to discuss, you know, extracting the most of your reinvent attended. Any final words of advice for attendees on Reinvent. She's some last parting words. So I'm going to guess imagine dragons as the headliner. It's just there, that's just a guess. My next prediction is on Werner Vogel's T shirt. I'm thinking that he's going to take an original approach to a bantie, so he's going to change it so that it's his bantee, but very iconic looking empty. I would think he would go again to He's got...

...a favorite football club from his native country, so he tends to promote them wherever possible. So it's possible. But the imagine Dragons. I would be there for that front row center. It's just a prediction. I have no idea who the headliner is. Stay tuned well everyone, Thank you for listening to our show.
